All-or-Nothing Thinking

Some people tend to categorize others as either entirely good or entirely bad. However, in reality, individuals are complex and multifaceted, possessing both positive and negative qualities. To challenge this "black-and-white thinking," try to identify someone you perceive as a "bad" person and acknowledge that they also have some redeeming qualities. For example, you might recognize that someone who can be self-centered also has interesting experiences to share, or that someone who is uptight is also a hard worker.

This type of thinking is also known as "all-or-nothing thinking" or "polarized thinking," where situations are viewed in extremes, without considering the middle ground. In reality, most things exist on a spectrum, with shades of gray rather than being purely good or bad.
