Listen To Music
Music has been used by humans for thousands of years to induce a particular mood.
- Note how music is used at many ceremonies (weddings, funerals, graduations, etc.) to evoke a mood in the participants. It is used in movies and television to make the action more exciting or dramas more intense.
- Music can affect your mood in at least three different ways. First, the tempo, volume, and instrumentation can directly stimulate and/or relax you. Secondly, if you have a particular memory associated with a song, hearing that song again can evoke a similar mood to the one you experienced initially during that event. Finally, if the song has lyrics, the words can evoke emotions as well.
- If you are anxious or uptight, try listening to more relaxing music (e.g., soft instrumental music such as light jazz, new age, or classical guitar).
- You could also try some soothing sounds of nature as well. Sounds of water (waves crashing, bubbles, gurgling, and rain) are often relaxing. Wind blowing in the trees or the sounds of crickets or frogs can also be relaxing.
- Consider making a playlist of relaxing sounds for easy access.
