Thought Stopping

Thought Stopping is a technique to reduce unwanted or intrusive thoughts.

The goal is to interrupt negative thought patterns and replace them with more positive or constructive ones.

The process typically involves the following steps:

  1. Awareness: Recognizing when unwanted thoughts occur.
  2. Interruption: Using a specific cue or technique to stop the thought, such as saying "STOP" out loud and/or visualizing a stop sign.
  3. Replacement: Redirecting focus to a more positive or neutral thought or engaging in a different activity.
